Six Secrets to Silky Skin

Recently, a friend and I were talking about our “things” that we’ve managed to maintain – maybe it’s that your hair is always smooth, even in Florida humidity. One girl I know says hers is that she always smells good, even after working out at the gym. Maybe it’s that your breath always smells good, including first thing in the morning. Mine is that my skin is always extremely soft – so this week, I’m confessing my six secrets to silky skin.

1. Hydrate.

You already knew I was going to say this – water is key! Drinking enough water each day has so many health benefits, including keeping your skin soft. A hydrated body is a moisturized body!

2. Choose your products wisely.

Ensuring that you choose products that actually work for you and aren’t just trendy is key. From body wash to shaving cream, lotions to scrubs, each product you use should align with not only your values (for me, I only buy cruelty-free and clean) but also work for your skin type. I’ve shared some of my favorite products below!

3. Scrub and shave.

Taking care of your skin is more than just getting a nice body wash and slathering on some lotion every now and then. Making sure to exfoliate regularly, shave often (I know, don’t hate me), and even incorporating dry brushing into your routine will help a lot.

4. Moisturize with oil, not just lotion.

Body oil is seriously underrated, and I credit this with helping my skin stay silky. I use lotion every morning and night, but at least twice a week, I also add in a body oil. Applying it immediately after showering is best because it really absorbs into your skin.

5. Keep the shower cool.

Listen, I love looking like a lobster after a bubble bath, but unfortunately, long, hot showers dry you out. Even though I prefer my showers on the warmer side, I keep them shorter and always end the shower with a nice cool blast to keep my skin soft.

6. Eat right.

You know what they say – you are what you eat! Be sure to incorporate foods like blueberries for antioxidants, and salmon & nuts for healthy fats – all of which will help your skin stay soft and smooth.
