Your Monday Morning Pep Talk: We Got This

How a three word mantra helps me get through the week.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that the sound of the alarm on Monday morning is one of the most unwelcome things you’ll hear all week. It’s the official starting gun for a week that can feel like a marathon before you’ve even had your first sip of coffee. And I get it. Mondays are tough. The countless meetings, to-dos, and various tasks are all ahead of you for the next five days before the weekend. It’s a lot. But, I’m here to share a little Monday morning pep talk and the simple, three-word mantra that helps me through the day (and week). We got this.

This phrase is not a call to be perfect or have everything figured out. It’s not a demand to be on top of everything. Nor does it mean you have to enjoy every work meeting that could have been an email. What it is is a quiet acknowledgement of strength. It’s about facing the day’s tasks, one at a time, and taking each day as it comes.

I didn’t even realize that this was my catchphrase until my dad and I were driving from Florida to Arizona. We set out with my brand-new puppy and a fully packed car all to start fresh in the West. Each day, when we got in the car with hundreds of miles ahead of us, I’d say to my dad, “We got this!” When we were in traffic or couldn’t remember how we’d managed to fit our suitcases in the day before. And when we stayed at some questionable hotels, that’s what I kept saying. We got this.

Later, once I settled in Arizona and my parents came out to visit me and my then-boyfriend a few months later, we all went to an art fair. There, my dad found a beautiful piece made of steel and wood that says, “We got this.” He immediately thought of me and our trip and got it for me. That artwork now hangs in my husband’s and my bedroom.

So when there’s a mountain of emails to go through, a long list of errands, or maybe you’re like me and seem to always be running just a few minutes late, remember – we got this. For you and me, this little phrase is a collective sigh of gentle determination, persistence, and positive attitude.

Remember that resilience is built in small, quiet moments, not just big ones. When you power through one more task before logging off for the day, or encourage yourself to work out for just 10 minutes when you’d rather snooze your alarm – those moments are just as important. You don’t have to do it all, and you don’t have to be perfect, but you can’t give up when it’s not even 10 AM. Think about this Monday morning pep talk. Don’t worry. You got this.
